HIBERNIA

Tow out of the Hibernia rig from it's construction berth in Bull Arm, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

In Newfoundland, Hibernia is used as the generic name given to the group of oil fields that lay below the ocean floor, 300km from
St. John's, on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, in the North Atlantic ocean.  It is also the name of the company
that was set up to build and manage
the island of concrete and steel that will sit on the ocean floor and be the first to pump that oil out of the Hibernia reservoir.
Some of the other oil
fields in the area being developed by companies such as Mobil, Chevron, Norsk Hydro, Murphy Oil and Petro Canada are Terra Nova, Hebron,
Ben Nevis and White rose. They are exepected to come on stream over the comng years.
In the fall of 1997 we launched the book,
HIBERNIA:
Promise of Rock & Sea. A 208 page book with 300 photographs
by Greg Locke and Ned Pratt.  This was the culmination of 4 years documenting what was, at the time, the largest construction project in the world.

The book is published by Break Water Books and edited by Lara Hartley.  ISBN# 1-55081-130-4.
